Community is an integral part of Team Homestretch and with members from all over the world, we pride ourselves on having an outstanding community both online and in-person. This community provides opportunities for runners to support and engage with each other both online but also at events too, with many friendships being made through our awesome community. This also means when you join Team Homestretch, you not only get the opportunity to develop as a runner but you also become a part of a family who will always have your back. Meet our community captain Katie below!

Katie McAllister
Katie took up the sport of running in adulthood and has since become a very experienced runner in a variety of different distances. Like many runners, injuries sadly plagued her running development for a period due to a lack of structure and planning to her training. That injury spell all changed when she joined Team Homestretch in the spring of 2021 where she joined up with Coach Perks and the team for her first ever marathon build up. Coach Perks immediately noticed that Katie had a very strong foundation from years of running which he quickly built upon with careful planning and structure to her training. This lead to Katie’s injury rate decreasing significantly and also lead to a much anticipated debut over the marathon in Richmond in the fall of 2021. Coach Perks commented “This was a very special moment for Katie but also the team because she proved that with hard work and dedication, big things can happen”. Another notable successful moment that Katie has achieved since joining the team is setting a PR by several minutes in the 5k with her 28:54 at the Hilton Head Turkey Trot. You’ll most likely find Katie racing over the longer distances on the road but also running up hills which is an area of running she loves the most!
